Nickerson’s Camden Cornelius – Baseball Spotlight – Presented by Allen Samuels Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram

The senior Camden Cornelius from Nickerson High school is finishing up his final year of high school baseball. Cornelius is extremely diverse on the field and has played every position, but he predominantly pitches and plays short stop.

Nickerson’s baseball team is moving forward this year with a goal of doubling the wins from the last season by setting little goals as the game plays on. “We have a goal as a team to win every inning and every pitch,” Cornelius told Vype Magazine. To help his team reach their goal of wins this year, Cornelius has set his own personal goal of a batting average of a least .500.

Cornelius is looking forward to a variety of challenges this season. As his last season in high school baseball, Cornelius hopes to break the strikeout record set by his brother which is a total of 17 strikeouts during a game.

While not in high school season, Cornelius told Vype Magazine “The offseason for me isn’t necessarily an offseason.” During the summer months, he played for The Hutchinson Monarchs. Once the fall gets going, he turns his focus to the cages to really work on his hitting and pitching. Now is the time to turn to working on the fundamentals of the game to try and improve. During winter break, Cornelius starts lifting and getting his body ready to play baseball by completing multiple workouts per day.

After graduation this May, Cornelius plans to pursue his baseball career through college and major in criminal justice. Although Cornelius is busy year-round with baseball, he can still be found working on the school yearbook, in chess club, or on the student council.
