Q&A with Buhler’s Curtis Morgan – Team Spotlight – Presented by Visit Wichita

Buhler High School cross country coach Curtis Morgan recently spoke with VYPE to talk about his team.

VYPE: What are the goals of the team this season?

Our boys team has a goal of reclaiming the state championship after taking 2nd last year. Our girls team goal is to finish higher than 6th at the state meet this fall.

VYPE: What was the team’s best moment from last season?

Despite losing a talented senior class from the year before, our boys team gave it all they had and finished 2nd at state. Our girls team’s most memorable moment was winning Regionals and beating a team we had previously beat us that season.

VYPE: Who is the team’s dynamic duo, and why?

Kaden Lohrentz and Layne Whisler would be our dynamic duo as they are the senior leaders and front runners on our boys team.

Krysten Hamby and Makayla Little would be our dynamic duo on our girls team. They also provide experience and senior leadership to our younger members.

VYPE: What is the team’s favorite memory together?

I am not sure how to answer this question. Memories are made each day that we practice together. The team values the time that they have together. From being together and accomplishing great things at meets to enjoying time spent at team meals during the season. All of those things make it one big collective memory.

VYPE: What has been the biggest impression the team has made on you (the coach), and why?

Their dedication to each other and to the concept of team. They believe wholeheartedly that cross country is so much more than an individual sport.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of working with this team?

They have all bought in to what we do as a team and the process that we take throughout the season to get better.

VYPE: Does the team participate in any community service projects?

We help out with our towns festival 5K. As well as all of our athletes participate in our schools “Citizenship Day” working in our community on various projects.

VYPE: Are you any players involved in academic excellence activities such as the National Honor Society, Student Council, or other academic clubs?

Layne Whisler – National Honor Society

Ashlynn Adcock – National Honor Society

Makayla Little – National Honor Society

 Mercury Lusk – Student Council

Krysten Hamby – FFA Chapter Officer

 Hannah Khan – Student Council
