VYPE got the chance to interview Hutchinson football coach Mike Vernon to learn more about his team.
VYPE: What are the goals of the team this season?
We want to be as good as we can possibly become. That will take continued improvement from summer through fall.
VYPE: What was the team’s best moment from last season?
Our playoff victory over Bishop Carroll was memorable. We played in a monsoon and pulled out the win over a great program. There were a lot of smiles in the football complex that night.
VYPE: Who is the team’s dynamic duo, and why?
Terrell King and Jax Heneha are an interesting pair as our starting safeties. They like to mix it up and compete which can lead to some fun times at practice. It can get pretty lively between offense and defense in 1’s on 1’s.
VYPE: What is the team’s favorite memory together?
Traditionally they enjoy Slide Day Fridays.
VYPE: What has been the biggest impression the team has made on you (the coach), and why?
They are extremely competitive. It’s a tremendous strength and something that helps you through tough stretches.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of working with this team?
We are an interesting group, in that we have all walks of life that belong to our program. As a leader, you are constantly challenged and rewarded for your work.
VYPE: Are you any players involved in academic excellence activities such as the National Honor Society, Student Council, or other academic clubs?
