Hutchinson baseball player Lakin Franz spoke to VYPE in a recent interview.

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?

Helping the team wherever needed by being flexible and playing any position coach asks. Helping the team compete and battle in every game.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

Starting swim my sophomore year to better myself for baseball, lead into competing at the highest level and swimming in the state finals.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

Former Senior, Carter Booe, took me under his wing and guided me through my freshman year with advice and encouragement. Showing me how to be a leader on and off the field.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

Knowing the talent and abilities that we possess as a team, excited to showcase this in the upcoming season.

VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?

Throughout the years I have helped with back to school supply gathering, for our local grade schools. Been involved as a timer at the youth swim meets, sharing knowledge and advice. During summers I’ve been involved with youth Salthawk baseball camps.

VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?

Involved with our student council for  the last 3 years to expand my leaderships skills. This year as senior class president. Was inducted into The National Honors Society last year, which represents students of the highest expectations. Helping with many community projects.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

To approach life with the same mentality and preparation that the game of baseball requires. Baseball is as mental as it is physical, teaching me that our minds are very powerful and you can control a lot by how you think.

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

I have heard this since I was young; Control the Controllables. This being Attitude and effort. Doing the little things exceptionally well and the big things will come.

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?

My biggest inspirations are my parents. They have always supported me throughout everything I have done and pushed me to be the best I can be. No matter what, they believe in me and my ability, they advise me to do the same. Putting in countless hours and miles driving me to the ball field allowing me to chase my dream.

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.

I have had countless coaches, friends and family help me throughout this journey. Thank you, and here’s to the next chapter.
