Hutchinson’s Winston Johnson – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Hog Wild BBQ

Hutchinson athlete Winston Johnson told VYPE in a recent interview “My favorite part of being on the Cross Country team, is getting the chance to learn from my coaches and to spend time with my teammates.” Also sharing “My personal goal for this season is to go out there, give my all, and perform to the best of my ability. I ultimately would love to just keep getting better and better, knowing my progress won’t always be linear.”

And although Johnson said “The most fun moments I’ve had in the last year have came while being in the student section at our high school Football and Basketball games. I love getting the chance to be with friends, supporting our school” he also shared “I’d say my favorite athletic memory, came during my junior year golf season. Our tournament was at Salina Municipal, and I played the best round of my life. I ended up shooting a 75, taking third place, and winning the tournament as a team.”

Outside of athletics Johnson is member of the National Honor Society, has been on the board of the Young American Award, and has been a part of the International Baccalaureate program. Also leading Hutchinson High’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes while participating in IronMan, SlamJam, and Junior-Senior Leaders. Johnson has also, on occasion, volunteered “at the soup kitchen with my church and my church camp, Westminster Woods, and helped lead and counsel 3rd-6th graders for weeks at a time.”
