After finishing last year 8-2 and losing to Hoisington, senior Grant Patry and the rest of the Haven Wildcats are bringing a different level of intensity this season.
“Have higher intensity and more energy in practice,” Patry said. “Even on the slow days there’s always someone that sets the energy and keeps it up and at camps we’ve carried the intensity and energy.”
Patry plays middle linebacker and fullback for the Wildcats. Playing both sides of the ball provides Patry with a unique opportunity to be a leader on both sides and someone that the younger guys can look up to and follow the example of.
Patry’s main goal for this season is to make sure Haven is competing at the level they need to be.
“We need to start being one of those teams that gets talked about when it comes to playoff time,” Patry said. “Make sure the work the team has put in translates to Friday nights.
Last year Patry finished the season with 111 tackles, 14 receptions, 231 yards, five touchdowns, 26 carries and 166 yards with two touchdowns. These stats earned him first team all-league and all-district linebacker as well as honorable mention all-league and all-district tight end.
