Q&A with Nickerson’s Kaden Ketterl – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by The Medicine Shoppe

Nickerson athlete Kaden Ketterl spoke with VYPE in a recent interview to discuss his life.

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?

My goals this year are to try and make it to a state competition level in Cross Country, wrestling, scholar’s bowl, choir, and track, as well taking some final classes to prep for college.

VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?

The funnest thing I did in the last year was when we went and sang in Branson Missouri for choir. While we were there we also went to Silver Dollar City and the Branson Landing.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?

It’s hard for me to pick a favorite teacher since I enjoyed so many of them, but if I had to it would be my fourth grade teacher Mrs. Konda. She was always fun in class and has been a close family friend for years now.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

In terms of a favorite athletic memory, I don’t really have one, but I always love hanging around at our camp and talking with friends during both track and cross country.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

The teammate to leave the biggest mark on me would have to be Dakota Brinkley. He’s funny, a little goofy at times, and we share many of the same interests. Whenever one of us goes somewhere or does something, the other’s almost always either there in the moment or is open to talk about what happened.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

My favorite part of being on all my sports teams, but especially cross country, is that everyone involved can talk and joke around during practices or at meets and still get done what’s needed, making it all much more enjoyable.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?

If I could take a vacation anywhere and money and timing wasn’t an issue, then I would love to visit Greece. I highly enjoy reading about Greek history and mythology, so I would love to see the ruins and architecture in person. As for who I would take with me, I would probably bring along my immediate family and around ten or so of my closest friends.

VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?

Most of the $500 would probably go towards a P.C. and some video games, but the rest would go towards any books I’ve had my eyes on and food that I either haven’t had before or haven’t eaten in a while.

VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?

I’m not currently involved in any specific community service projects, but every now and then I’ll work with one of the clubs or other programs I’m involved in to help the community.

VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?

The only proper club I’m entered in presently is the local 4-H club, the Nickerson Clovers, where I currently serve as president. I do however enjoy stopping by in the library each Friday to play some chess in the chess “club” when I have the chance. It isn’t really a proper club, but it’s still something that many students enjoy doing.

VYPE: Are you involved in academic excellence activities such as the National Honor Society, Student Council, or other academic clubs?

The only academic excellence group I’m a part of is year is our School’s branch of National Honors Society.
