Haven runner Dalton Bontrager interviewed with VYPE to talk about who he is.
VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
My personal goals for this year are trying to hit sub 19 by the end of the XC season and continuing to excel academically.
VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?
The most fun I’ve had in the last year is probably picking up golf with a group of guys from our school.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?
My favorite teacher ever is probably Mr. Miller because he is really funny and gives great life advice.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
My favorite athletic memory was when we played Hesston towards the end of the basketball season. There was was so much energy in the air and everyone in the gym was on their feet yelling.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
The teammate that left the biggest impact on me was a former runner named Wyatt Carmichael. He was a great example of how upper classmen should treat the younger kids on the team. He would cheer for all of us no matter what race we ran and he would really get to know you not just your name.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
My favorite part of being on a team is probably the community and going through hardships together rather then going through then by yourself.
VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?
If I could go anywhere for vacation I would go to a cabin in the mountains with my family. I would go fishing in a lake or stream and take hikes to see God’s creation.
VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?
If I had 500 dollars to spend in 24 hours I would spend it on basketball shoes and a baseball bat.
VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?
I work with my youth group that serves the South Hutch community once a month. I also went to Texas on a mission trip over the summer to help the community of Brownsville.
VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?
I am on the leadership team of Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). I lead a devotional once a month and help plan FCA events. I am also in our school’s broadcasting club which live streams home sporting events.
VYPE: Are you involved in academic excellence activities such as the National Honor Society, Student Council, or other academic clubs?
I am hoping to be nominated for National Honor Society this year.
