Just one shot separated Hutchinson’s Ty Adkins and a state championship last season.
That has been on Adkins’ mind throughout the summer and fall, as well as the beginning to this season.
“I would say winning the individual state title,” Adkins said. “I’ve been chasing this for the past two years so it would be nice to go out on a high note. As a team, I would just like all of our guys to make it to the state golf tournament.”
While focusing on winning state is at the forefront of Adkins’ mind, he still wants to be present in the moment each day of the season. He wants to enjoy every aspect of his senior year.
“I’m looking forward to another chance at a state title,” Adkins said. “Also just spending time with my teammates and Coach Pierce especially since it’s my last year playing for him.”
Golf has become a game for the long hitters and that has not been lost on Adkins. He spent the offseason working on increasing his distance.
“I want to gain more clubhead speed and also work on my mental game as golf is very frustrating sometimes,” Adkins said. “To gain more clubhead speed I’ve been working in the gym a lot this past winter.”
Adkins signed to play at Wichita State next year, which was an easy choice for him.
“First off what was appealing was that I already knew most of the guys on the team,” Adkins said. “And the coaches are two of the most down-to-earth guys I have ever met so it made the decision pretty easy.”
